Library without barriers
In the building at Armia Krajowa Avenue 36A, readers with disabilities can use the elevator and a stair platform activated upon request by the interested person. Accessible restrooms are located on the ground floor and the second floor of the building.
The counters in all sections of the Library are adapted to serve readers with mobility impairments.
Other amenities for people with disabilities include:
• Priority service,
• Access to the library catalog without leaving home,
• The ability to borrow books through a person authorized by the reader with a disability,
• Library staff available to help find catalog and bibliographic information.
In the reading room, the distances between the bookshelves are adapted to allow easy movement in accordance with established standards. Different sections of the collection are marked with colored (reflective) stickers that are visible to users.
At the University Library reading room, two stations have been set up for people with disabilities:
Station for People with Mobility Impairments:
• Chair with adjustable seat height (5 cm), seat tilt, adjustable headrest, adjustable armrests, and adjustable lumbar support,
• Desk with electrically adjustable height and pinch protection,
• Computer with a 27" monitor,
• TrackMan Marble, a specialized computer mouse for users with hand dysfunctions.
Station for Visually Impaired and Blind People:
• Chair with adjustable seat height (5 cm), seat tilt, adjustable headrest, adjustable armrests, and adjustable lumbar support,
• Desk with electrically adjustable height and pinch protection,
• Braille printer,
• Braille display,
• Specialized keyboard adapted to the needs of visually impaired users,
• Computer with a 27" monitor on a mount that allows height adjustment and magnification.
Additionally, the MAGIc magnification and speech program with a Polish speech synthesizer, NVDA screen reader with Polish (female and male) voices, and a camera for magnifying text from books and displaying it on the computer monitor have been installed.
Furthermore, the reading room is equipped with reading devices and magnifiers:
• Acrobat HD Ultra Long Arm Magnifier (also available at the Library of Science, Medicine and Health Sciences),
• Snow 12HD OCR Magnifier,
• Auto-Lektor Basic, a device for reading printed text with synthetic speech version 3-1.7 (also available at the Library of Science, Medicine and Health Sciences).
For Visually Impaired:
• Lenovo TabM10 FHD Plus tablet with Migam Translator, a service providing immediate video connection to a sign language interpreter via web browser.
